trying to download VS2005 from MSDN

I have a MSDN subscription and I'm downloading the first CD of VS2005
now. But I'm not sure I'm doing it right. I put a blank CD in the CD
drive and told it to write it to D: (the cd drive). It said there was
not enough space. I went to mycomputer then d: and right clicked and
there was a format option so I said ok format it. I then went back to
MSDN site and now it's downloading to the CD.

But, I've now been told this probably will not work. I'm told I need to
download it to my c: and then extract the files from the .iso to the CD.

Can anyone explain this process better to me?

Hi,

I am not sure if Windows can burn iso images. You need to use a burning
software and choose the option to burn the image (iso) to the cd.

apparently your right. It just saved the .iso to the cd and I had to
use and IBM utility that is on my pc to burn it from that cd to another.
So for CD2 I'm saving to my c:.

Alternatively, install WinRAR and use it to open the .iso file. It'll treat
it just like a .zip or .rar file and you can extract the contents directly
to your hard drive without going anywhere near a CD or DVD.

The download IIRC is an ISO file which contains a representation of the
content that can be burned onto a CD. However, copying the ISO file to the
CD is not sufficient. You may want to use this tool to burn the ISO file to
CD:
