TRYING TO CHANGE FROM WINDOWS 98 TO A NEWER EDITION

Trying to change windows and it keeps telling me that i need product code for
windows 98. i have a newer version but can't get in to delete 98 and it won't
read new disc just keeps coming up the install wizard for 98. Can anyone
please help me with this matter.
