true USB Camera

Are there any digital cameras available that can be hooked up to a
machine (using USB) that will be 'seen' by the machine as a true USB
device?

I don't want to have to install any software to download the images a
camera. I just want to be able hook it up using a USB cable, and see
the camera as a logical drive so I can pull files off of it as I see
fit.

I currently have multiple cameras each with it's own software package.
Even though all of the cameras are USB, they are not treated as true
USB devices by the machine.. I usually just pull the memory card and
use my card reader. I'd like to skip that step and work directly with
the images on the camera itself.

Any thoughts or suggestions are appreciated.

Thanks,
Eric

I never installed any of the Camedia software for my Olympus D-550. I
connect cable to PC and voila, it's a removable drive.

Excellent!
That's exactly what I'm looking for.
Just to be sure, can I ask what operating system you are using?

I'll be using Windows 2000 and I'll get a D-550 to test. This will
make automating the download of the camera using our custom
application a breeze.

XP Pro...... and I think it's now a D-560. You know the feeling, you buy
something one day and the next day the new model is released, despite the
fact that when you looked on the manufacturer's website, it clearly said the
one you were looking at was the current model and there was nothing new
coming out!

But check with Olympus.....

A quick email or phone call to them at least means no disappointment after
you've purchased something!
