troubleshooting hyperlink in Word

I am getting the following error message when I try to open a hyperlink I've
inserted into a Word document. I used a Microsoft link as an example:

Unable to open http://www.microsft.com. Cannot locate the Internet server
or proxy server.

I have not changed any settings.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Sounds like access is blocked to the Internet from MS-Word. Could be your
firewall, or security settings (Firewall, Browser, etc.). Be sure that you
have an Internet connection at the time you try the link, i.e., open the
browser and refresh the home page. No errors? Then look for settings that are
blocking MS-Word, or Office applications.
