Trouble with Page X of Y Total

I've got a document with both front matter, and multiple sections. The front
matter is paginated in small Roman numerals, and I've started the numbering
of the main document at 1, going straight through all the sections to the
end. The problem is that in having my page numbers show "Page X of Y," "Y"
always includes the pages in the front matter, which I don't want, causing
the last page of the document to show "Page 26 of 29." How can I make it
show "Page 26 of 26" even though the 26 pages include multiple sections?

Sorry for the duplication...but I'm afraid that, resourceful as I consider
myself to be, none of your links really gave me clear instructions on how to
define Y as the total number of pages, less the front matter. (I already had
the numbering restarted after the front matter, so that wasn't the solution).

Can you provide more specific instructions?
