Trouble with Outgoing mail on other wireless networks.

S

Scott Curts

I'm using Outlook 2003 for my email client. My ISP is Comcast. I am able to
access my email from other wireless networks other than my own, but, I'm not
able to send, or reply. The emails sit in my outbox until I return to my own
network at home and then they will send.

I test the email accounts in outlook and the tests return positive on all
the the: network connection; finding outgoing mail server; finding incoming
mail server (pop3); log onto incoming mail server (pop3) but, the test email
fails and is unable to send either.

I use AVG Internet Security, but, can't seem to find if this program is
blocking the outgoing mail either.

Any ideas? Greatly, thank you.

For those Comcast subscribers trying to use email on the road, Comcast has
set up email service using port 995 w/SSL for incoming email, and using port
465 w/SSL for outgoing email. Since Comcast has added so much snazzy Flash
on their web site, I've not been able to grab the link to their Help pages
detailing how to configure MS Outlook ports; and I don't use Outlook myself,
so I don't know the menus.

Hey Norman,

Thank you for your suggestions. I tried setting up an second email account
with these settings and I still have the same problem. I get the test to
work but, the test email fails. And the outgoing email sits.... :)

Hmmmm.

You need to set your outgoing account to authenticate.

As I said, the Comcast site has the details. As Milly Staples posted, one of
the details, when using the SSL ports off-network, is that you have to
authenticate to the server. This isn't your father's Internet, where you
just plug in server names and go.
