trouble with IPCONFIG...shows wireless but not wired

I have a company PC that is behaving very strangely. It is XP-SP2.

When I am not connected to the internet via an ethernet cable,
IPCONFIG does not show my "Ethernet Adapter Local Area Connection
connection".

I need the ethernet card's physical address to run software. The
license is tied to the physical address of the ethernet card.

I have heard of this problem in LINUX but not with windows.

Is there anyway to "turn on" the ethernet card so that it shows up in
IPCONFIG?

thanks!

If you connect the card to a suitable device, e.g. a switch then the
MAC-address will show. Alternatively you could read it off the card itself -
it's usually printed there on a sticker.

Pegasus,

The problem is not that I do not know the MAC address but rather the
software needs to be able to see the MAC address of the ethernet card
to run. It is using flexlm licensing from MACROVISION.

It is a notebook computer and often it is not connected to the
internet via a wired cable. In these cases, the MAC address of the
ethernet card does not appear in IPCONFIG and the software will not
run.

I need a way to somehow activate the ethernet card in the notebook so
that it thinks it is connected and it shows up in IPCONFIG.

The machine does not need to be connected to the Internet. Any active
connection to a network adapter will do. If you don't want to connect it to
the company network then you could use a cross-over cable and connect it to
a stand-alone retired PC.
