ipconfig error

I have an IBM ThinkPad with WINXP SP2 and it has built-in ethernet and
built-in wireless. This laptop also uses IBM Access Connections software for
controlling the ethernet and wireless connections. When using the ethernet
connection I receive a valid response when using a command prompt and typing
ipconfig. But when I am using the wireless, I receive the error below when I
type ipconfig at the command prompt:

Windows IP Configuration
An internal error occurred: The system cannot find the file specified.
Please contact Microsoft Product Support Services for further help.
Additional information: Unknown media status code.

When checking the wireless network properties I do have a valid IP and I am
able to get to the internet just fine.

I have tried removing Winsock entries in the registry and rebooting the
laptop but I still receive the error. I have also tried removing and
reinstalling the wireless card but have the same problem.

Any ideas?

Thanks!
Robert

I ran into a similar situation on a different brand laptop. Downloading
and installing the latest software for the wireless device from the
manufacturer alloweed it to be set to allow Windows to manage the device
rather than the wireless management software that came bundled.

Thanks for the response. I did try the "netsh int ip reset resetlog.txt"
thing and have the same issue.

Thanks for the response.

Sorry I forgot to mention that even though IBM Access Connections
automatically switches from wired to wireless when the ethernet cable is
unplugged (and vice versa) I have set Access Connections to allow Windows to
manage the wireless connection.

Hi Robert,

I am having the same issue with my IBM XP2 laptop. It only occurs when I
use the wireless connection and I still have complete connectivity even
though ipconfig fails. Is there anybody out there that has a definitive
answer to why Ipconfig doesn't work, but everything else seems to?

It looks like there are 5 or 6 other threads that include this same issue.
What can I do to fix it?
