IPConfig, An internal error occurred.

Guest

I recently started getting the following error after typing ipconfig at the
command prompt:

An internal error occurred: A device attached to the system is not
functioning.
Please contact Microsoft Product Support Services for further help.
Additional information: Unknown media status code.

I get a GUI IP Address and am able to get around networks and to the internet.

Am using a Thinkpad T42 with one of those Centrino wireless adapters and
have installed Service Pack 2.

I have reseated the adapter. I have performed a system restore. Did not
notice if error occured after SP2 install.

Any Ideas?

Ok,see what happens after SP2 installation.

suggestions:-
Open Device Manager -Are there any yellow exclamation or red warning
marks next to network devices?

Disable firewall and try the following:-
1.Click Start, click Run, type cmd, and then press ENTER.
2.At the command prompt, type netsh int ip reset resetlog.txt, and then
press ENTER to reset the TCP/IP network protocol.
3.At the command prompt, type ipconfig /renew, and then press ENTER.

Thanks for the quick response.

SP2 is already installed. There are no errors in device manager and no
errors in the event viewer relating to this issue.

I have already performed the netsh int ip reset resetlog.txt and am still
getting the error. Also, I performed the check to verify protected .dll's
and had no problsms

Don't know if this started hapening after an update or not. After I
recovered my system to its preconfigured OEM state, there were no problems.
Only after I installed all the patches for OS and Office suite did the errors
return.

Thanks,
Rich
