Trouble with IE home page settings

Anybody having trouble changing their Internet Explorer home page to
something other than MSN.com can save a lot of time by just changing
their browser!
My fresh-out-of-the-box, XP-Pro notebook had IE 6 and MSN installed and
configured to overide all attempts at changing the home page. After
days spent searching for, and trying, every solution I could find, the
problem persisted. Firewall and security settings, registry edits,
spyware scans, worm hunts, reinstalling software, clean boots, etc. were
all foiled by some nasty bit of code hidden very well. Microsoft and
MSN denied any such hijacking code but the fact remains that something
was hijacking all my attempts to change my home page away from MSN, who
do you think put it there. I even tried the beta version of IE 7.0 but
the hijacking persited.
Finally, I changed my browser to Firefox 1.5 and, PRESTO, no more
problems! Save youself lots of frustration and time and kiss Internet
Explorer goodbye.
By the way, Firefox is very easy to use - it looks and feels a lot like
IE only better and more customizeable. And it only took about a minute
to install.
