Trouble with copying corrupted user data

I am following MS Knowledge base article 811151 which explains how to copy
data from a corrupted user profile to a new one. When I try to copy the data
from the "old username" there are no files in that file. The folder is empty.
I can't figure this out. Suggestions?

thank you

Use "My Computer" to determine if there are, in fact,
any files left in the user's profile folder. Note that you
must reboot the workstation in order to unlock an
existing user profile folder.

Is it possible that the old profile doesn't work because the files are
missing? Pegasus' suggestion will help to rule this out as a cause.

Do you need to recover these files, even if they are missing? If so, then
you'll have to try a file recovery utility like PCInspector (free from here:

In my main user account all files are present. I made a new user account in
order to delete the old user account. I want to copy the old or main user
acct. info to my new user account and then delete the old. When I try using
the method in the MS 811151 article, I try to copy the info from the old but
it says the folder is empty. Now I understand from the article that I must be
in an admin account that is neither the one I want to copy from nor the one I
want to copy to. Still the file is empty and if I go back to the old/main
account all files are there. ?????
