trouble with a user account

My husband and I have WindowsXP Home edition. I signed in first as an
administrator account and then we signed him up as a 2nd admin. account.
About a month ago he started having trouble with his website shortcut icons
on his desktop. The shortcut connection opens up but freezes upon opening.
Every time he clicks on it, it locks up the desktop. He has to log off to
free the screen. The icons on my desktop work fine. We even deleted his
account and set up a new account. Same thing happened on his new account. The
only thing we have added is Flight Simulator X but it has been on since last
December (2006) with no apparent problems. We have uninstalled the software
thinking that might be the problem. But it did not help. Other files and
programs on his desktop work all right. It's just the shortcuts that cause
the lock up. We have Outlook Express 7 and Internet explorer on the desktop
also. We have no problem with them. We have run antivirus program and nothing
has shown up.
Does anyone have a suggestion?

Please post copies of all Error and Warning Reports appearing in the
System and Application logs in Event Viewer for the last time the
problem occurred. No Information Reports please.

You can access Event Viewer by selecting Start, Control Panel,
Administrative Tools, and Event Viewer. When researching the meaning
of the error, information regarding Event ID, Source and Description
are important.

HOW TO: View and Manage Event Logs in Event Viewer in Windows XP

Part of the Description of the error will include a link, which you
should double click for further information. You can copy using copy
and paste. Often the link will, however, say there is no further
information.

A tip for posting copies of Error Reports! Run Event Viewer and double
click on the error you want to copy. In the window, which appears is a
button resembling two pages. Click the button and close Event
Viewer. Now start your message (email) and do a paste into the body of
the message. Make sure this is the first paste after exiting from
Event Viewer.

Hope this helps.
