Trouble upsizing Access to SQL

Scott M

Not sure if this is the right group.
I have been working fine with Access databases and Microsoft SQL Server 2005
Express.
I just managed to get Microsoft SQL Server 2008 Express working.
I moved my main database over.
It connects fine through Access (after a bit of stuffing around).

Now I am trying to upsize a test database table I created in Access and I
get an error message when upsizing.

I get as far as selecting the Server Instance and click Next.

Message says -

'The Upsizing Wizard only works with SQL Server (versions 6.50 SP5 or
higher, please log into a SQL server data source)'.

I don't get it, my SQL server is running and existing Access connections are
working with it.

Any Suggetions?

I suppose that your version of Access doesn't recognize SQL-Server 2008 as a
Server edition. Instead of the Upsizing Wizard, try with the SQL-Server
Migration Assistant for Access (SSMS-A):

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...C2-C89C-4641-BEBB-6D04476EC1BA&displaylang=en

If you have trouble with the requirement, I think - but I'm not sure - that
the older and ordinary version of SSMA will still be capable of doing the
job for SQL-Server 2008 but I didn't check it. Look at the bottom of the
page under the "What Others Are Downloading" section.

Thank you very kindly.
After getting a second opinion - Google search to find some one had given
the same answer on another site, I decided to download the program.
Couldn't get the liscence to work at first but figured I had to move it
into the right folder.

Anyway tested on an Access database and works fine.
Did test the data both ways - SQL Studio and Access to make sure both
applications were working together.
Still don't understand why we have download this program.
Why can't microsoft just have an update for Access?

Thanks once again you've saved me a lot of trouble.

Based on past experiences, I would say in my opinion - but without any
certainty - that the update for SQL-Server 2008 will be available only in
the next version of Access.

With what version of SSMA did you have a licensing or security problem? On
which operating system (WinXP or Vista or something else) ?

I saved the license to my Documents folder and when I went to run the
licence it was trying to run it in ;
Users\me\Application Data\Local\Microsoft\ Business Contacts

I did not realise this at first and the licence update would not work until
I cut my downloaded licence from Documents and shifted it to the place the
migration assistant was looking for.
Had to display hidden files and folders to do so as my application data is
normally hidden.

Now it works fine.
