Trouble upgrading from XP office to XP Pro-Help

I'm upgrading from XP office to XP Pro. In the middle of setup blue screen
appears with the following message: BAD _POOL_CALLER Technical Information:
***STOP: 0x000000C2 (0x00000007, 0x00000CD4, 0x00340045, 0XE1515604). I've
shut off & turn back on only to restart at the same point where it stopped
during installation and blue screen comes up with the message I stated
previosly. Also get message Fatal Error when trying to bypass installation
without the CD. I also can't get to my main desktop it just keeps trying to
install. Can someone please help, I'm going in circles.
Thank you,
Jo

One problem could be that Office XP is a suite of office programs (word processor, spreadsheets, etc.) and XP Professional is an operating system. You can't upgrade an apple to an orange.

Hello Jo,

Bad pool caller is error number STOP 0x000000c2. See this reference.
http://www.microsoft.com/resources/...Windows/XP/all/reskit/en-us/prmd_stp_czgw.asp

A Stop 0xC2 message might also be due to failing or defective hardware.

Use a working pc and get a memory test utility, place on diskette, and run it on the problem pc.
Run a RAM memory test. MEMTEST86 is one such utility.
See http://www.memtest86.com/

To attempt to get your Windows back to the prior known good configuration:

When the pc is booting up ,Tap F8 Function key to get bootup options. Tap & keep repeat tapping F8 !

When presented with bootup choices, select Last Known Good Configuration.

Hopefully, that will result in your being able to have a working Windows XP.

So should I have bought the Upgrade Version of Windows XP Pro not the full
version. When installing the full version I did select Upgrade not the new
installation. Should I do a new installation and wipe out Windows XP office
completely. I already backed up all files just in case. Thanks, Jo

Thanks for your reply. I'll try your suggestions and get back to you but
meanwhile worst case scenerio, how do I do a system recovery if need be? & Do
you feel this would help? I've already backed up all my files just in case.

P.S. Having trouble looking up the error message on that reference link you
sent me where should I go after I click link? Thanks again.

If still with same problem & no joy.... the next time you power up your system, as it is initially booting up, tap & repeat tapping F8 function key to get selective bootup choices. Then select Safe mode. (that should bypass any hung-up installs).
One in there, use XP's System Restore to restore to a prior restore point.
(Start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > System Restore).

Sorry about the MS TechNet link. Appears to have moved.

Instead, see http://aumha.org/win5/kbestop.htm
scroll down to 0x000000C2: BAD_POOL_CALLER

Windows XP and Office XP are two (2) different products. There has never
been a Windows XP office version.

Windows XP (Home or Professional) is a operating system.

Office is a collection of programs (Suite) to help users with most office
functions (word processing, spreadsheets, presentations etc...)
