Trouble: Overheating X850XT PE ??

R

Reggie Hillier

I have latest drivers installed and all defaults are set.
The card's temperature is 45(C) at idle. When I run 3DMark 2001
the temperature will be around 70(C). When I play 3d games for about 10
minutes
I will get the overheating beeps and sometimes get booted out of the game
but the card's
fan will not go to high speed mode. I have had a few times that is
approached 80(C).
Anybody else have this problem ?
It is a Connect 3D card and is still under warranty but I am hoping for a
quick fix. Thanks !

Your card should run fine at 80°C. but it's not a recommended temp.
If you live with a room temp of 30°C. this temp sounds right.
Try disabling vpu recover in the catalyst control panel.
you can use atitool to set various fan speeds at different temps, mine will
kick in at 100% when over 80°C.
You should also clean out the heatsink,in 1 month it can be cluttered with
dust.
My x850pro has this little nag,and it can differ from 5 to 10 degrees when I
don't clean it regularly.
People can think what they want, and I know it's not a good way to do,but I
use the vacuum cleaner on the heatsink once every two months.
Takes several degrees down on my idle and full load temps.
My card can go 45°C. on top of my room temp when at full load.
