Replacement for X800XT-PE AGP

Thomas Elser

Hi, I need to replace an X800XT-PE for a new card for the simple reason that
I need two DVI connectors. I was thinking of the 2600XT, would you recommend
the card to me? I do not need the highest 3D speed, I just don't want an
downgrade from my old card. Is the 2600XT (512MB) compareable to the
X800XT-PE?

Thanks in advance for your help

Regards

Thomas

I think you'd be a whole lot happier with this Sapphire HD3650 512Mb for
$79.99. It's faster and cheaper. Sapphire's 512Mb 2600XT costs $10 more.

Sorry, I missed the AGP part! Your choice of the 2600XT would likley be the
best/perfromance ATI value for you. If you're willing to go Nvidia, they
make a 7800GS and 7900GS AGP that are excellent 3D performers, but are right
up there in terms of cost with the X1950Pro AGP, which is hard to find new
now.

Thanks. I think I will go with the 2600XT, also because my power supply is
only 380W (Entec) and I am not sure
if 7800/7900/X1950 demand a more powerfull PSU.

Thanks again

The 7800 / 7900 AGP cards with the G71 core are very energy efficient, and
thus very cool even with higher than stock core clocks. My factory OCed EVGA
7800GS CO has never struggled with my generic 350w PSU. It won't go above
58C no matter how hard I push it and there's some good headroom for further
OCing. It's not like the days of the 6800 ultra with two molex connectors
drawing about 596536122749322 Amps at full load. Watch out for older AGP
7800's with a G70 core though, their power drain is higher but you'd have to
do a google on how much. A 7800 will outperform your X850XT PE by a fair
bit, the 7900 series AGP cards are very expensive and hard to find, while
the X1950Pro is the best performer of the lot - but I can't tell you how
your PSU will perform with one.
