Trouble installing 2nd HDD to IDE Controller Card

I am experiencing difficulty attempting to install a second HDD to a
'I/O Flex Ultra ATA/133 Dual Channel PCI RAID Controller' card which is
installed on a 'D945PVSLKR Intel Socket 775 ATX' motherboard running
WinXP Home. My optical drive(s) are using the only IDE controller of the
motherboard. When finances allow I will purchase S-ATA drives but for
now I wish to use my existing P-ATA HDDs. I was able to install my
existing (100GB Maxtor)HDD0 on IDE1 of the card, using the supplied
'SIL0680' non-RAID drivers and do a repair install of XP and activate
said OS. I ran the system for a week with just the one HDD installed w/o
any problems.
The trouble started when I attempted to install my 'storage' drive
(Maxtor 200GB) If I jumper both as 'cable select' and reboot the boot
process goes through my video card post screen, the Intel splash screen
then stalls on the RAID BIOS screen. (I don't know why this is present
as I installed the non-RAID drivers but it always shows even in a
successful boot and I can access the RAID BIOS {F3} but it is
non-functional) During the boot process I cannot access the Intel BIOS
(F2) nor the RAID BIOS. The system simply shows these three screens and
stalls. The same results occur if the HDDs are jumpered to Master and
Slave on IDE1 of the card. The Intel BIOS is set to auto detect. If I
connect the second HDD to IDE2 of the controller card jumpered as Master
with the system disk still on IDE1 also as Master I get only my video
card POST screen and then the process stalls at the Intel splash screen,
again I cannot access the BIOS (F2). This is the preferred set up for a
RAID configuration on the card.
Once I disconnect the second HDD all is well again. The boot sequence is
CD, HDD, Floppy, Network. What to try? Do I need to somehow install the
SCSI drives on this drive using my Windows installation disk or the
Maxtor bootable CD? Should I put my optical drives on the card and my
HDDs on the ONE IDE controller of the motherboard?

Please Advise
TIA

Try removing the jumper (no jumper) on the second drive, sometimes this will
work.

Thank you for the suggestion, however that is the 'Slave' setting on
these drives so it has been tried.
