New HDD connected to PCI IDE not recognised on My Computer

I have installed a pci ide raid contoller (PCI Ultra ATA 100/133 IDE Card,
Supports ULtra ATA 133/100/66/33, EIDE/Fast ATA 2 IDE & ATAPI Devices) and a
Hitachi Dekstar 320gb hdd (purchased from a UK distributor). I used pci as I
have already used all available slots on the motherboard (2 hdds and
assortment of optical drives). The motherboard is a 3 year old intel D865GLC
with no other modifications. Running WinXP home. The only installation
problem was the instruction to connect HDD LED connector to the card, but I
was told this wasn't necessary.

The device manager is saying the pci card is correctly installed, and the
hitachi hdd is showing in the disk drive list along with the 2 WD hdds. I
have set the "switches" on the new HDD as slave, and tried connecting the
ribbon to both primary and secondary slots on the card. Unfortunately My
Computer still only shows a C drive and an F drive and no new drive. The old
hdds are connected to the main board through one ribbon.

I only have rudimentary knowledge of hardware configuration, so would
appreciate any advice on what I need to do (buy?) to use the new hardware.

My comments at the end.

By definition, RAID is comprised of MULTIPLE DISKS; you are at least one
drive short. (see:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Redundant_array_of_independent_disks)

1. You at least one more drive, preferably the same as your new one.

2. Both drives must be jumpered as MASTER.

3. Each drive must be plugged into a different CHANNEL on the RAID
controller.

4. Having made your hardware connections, turn on your computer.
AFTER your System POSTs, enter the BIOS of the RAID controller to configure
your RAID array.

[Read the instructions that came with your RAID controller for precise
instructions for completing those steps.]

5. After having created the RAID array, boot your system and install
the Device Driver(s) for the RAID controller.

6. Reboot and start Disk Management.

7. Locate your RAID array (which will appear as a single drive) and
activate it, partition it, and format it.

If the drive is showing in the Device manager then Windows is seeing the physical drive. Now you
need to partition it so Mt Computer sees the Partition. Right click My Computer and select Manage.
On the left you will see Disk Management, go there to set up(format/partition) the new drive.
