trouble downloading ei6

I am trying to download ei6, and keep getting a pop-up saying to close all
other programs and try again. I have done this several times, and still can
not download. My computer is Windows ME, and have not been online for 3
years, and need this ei6 to enter many sites. I am currently running 5.5 on
my brower. If anyone has some advice, I would greatly appriciate it.

That's an old one!

Try this:

Go to My Computer - Tools - Folder Options - View:
- Select "Show hidden files and folders", click Apply - OK

Create a folder named "Old uninstall".

Go to folder C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\Uninstall Information.

Now Edit - Select All - Cut all files.

Open "Old uninstall" folder and paste the files.

You will now be able to install all the troublesome components.

If everything works as expected, you can delete the "Old Uninstall" folder
and the files you moved.

By any chance was WinME reinstalled without having first uninstall IE6 SP1?

Can you download the installer from the following link and then use it to
install IE6 SP1? =>

NB: Disable your anti-virus application before attempting to install IE6
SP1!

Speaking of which, do you have a functional and fully-update anti-virus
application installed (yet)?
