"The page cannot be displayed"

I'm using EI6 and XP and only for certain site addresses
do I get the "The page cannot be displayed."
microsoft.com is an address the repeatedly will not open.
However support.microsoft.com opens just fine. I have
done everything my ISP, EarthLink, can think to try and
Dell's tech tried several things and finally said they
would research it and get back to me in three days.
Perhaps it can be solved here faster.

I assume you have clear your cookies and temporary internet files.

If you've recently had trouble logging on to Web sites or completing
Internet transactions - or if you have started seeing the message "HTTP 500
internal server error" when trying to visit secure Web sites - then you

I have repeatedly cleared cookies, temporary files and
history. I have changed IP settings per my ISP and I have
lowered my security settings. I have temporarily exited
virus protection. So far, no change in the fact that I
cannot access certain addresses.
I would happily, download the suggested updated, only if
I could access http://www.microsoft.com
