Problems downloading files

Hi I have Windows XP2, Penium4 2.56, Navidia 4200, vidio Card 512 Ram
very often when I try to download a file or a video the download stops part
way through, if I restart the download it will usually come through OK,
Sometimes takes two or three restarts. Same when trying to view online
Videos. This problem just started in the last week or so and I have made no
recent changes to my computer. the only thing I have done is run a couple of
spyware and adware programs. I am on a cable hookup. Any advice would be
appriciated
