Trouble burning ISO's

R

Rob

I'm having some trouble burning cd's. I have ezcd creator and a couple of
weeks ago I burned some linux ISOs no problem. I needed to burn a couple
more cds and this time around it got stuck at 12% and the program crashed. I
tried a few times and it kept hanging at 12%. So, I tried downloading a
trial version of nero and I got errors also. Nothing has changed over the
last couple of weeks so I don't know what the problem is. I'm using the same
cd-rs that worked before and I've tried using a few different discs just
incase it had ruined the previous ones it errored on.

EZ CD Creator didn't give me any error messages but nero did.

Here is one persons fix for that power calibration error on GIDForums:
http://www.gidforums.com/t-1805.html

You can also look through google search results here:

Darn, maybe my drive just went out but it just seems unlikely because I've
maybe burned 50 cds since I've had this pc. I can say the media is fine with
pretty good certainty because I used the same media a couple weeks ago to
burn about 8 cds.

I guess I'll know for sure when I swap out the rw from another pc and see
the same problem... or not.

R

Rob

Well, I took the same media to my neighboring pc and burned the same image
without error so I guess it is my drive :/

Thanks for the help.

1. Drives don't have a timetable as to when they go bad.

2. I have seen failure rates of about 20% in a pack of 50 CD's and
DVD's.

It's amazing at how many people who have an expensive computer will scrimp
on their media to save a few bucks. Get the very best CD's and DVD's you
can. Look at reviews in on line computer magazines for ratings.

Personally, I always use Sony media with my Sony burners. Invariably, when I
call Sony they say that the media is defective. HA! Gotcha buddy. Send me
new media.

I have gotten hundreds of free DVD's this way.

I've tried numerous brands and use ( or try to use ) Sony or Imation.
Given a choice, I'll stay away from Memorex, especially any of their
RW media.

R

Rob

I did try the first link and it didn't work for me.

Btw, I am using sony media. and the drive is oem with my dell.

L

LittleMoo

How about trying to put the drive in another computer and seeing if it works
on that one?
This way you'll know for sure if the drive is defective.

Download Nero Tool to verify the Optical's capabilities. Also,
CD/DVD recorders have frequent Firmware Flash updates to
fix issues or improve burning speeds. Use your Service Tag #
at Dell's site to see if your Optical drive has any firmware flash
updates available. Since Dell uses other Mfg's units, you may
have to capture it's Device ID and go straight to the vendor's
website.
Nero Info Tool Download here:
http://www.cdspeed2000.com/go.php3?link=download.html
**Stand-Alone tool, doesn't require installation.
