Problem writing CD / DVD's ? ATAPI iHAS124 B

K

Keith (Southend)G

Does this log mean anything to anyone?

I installed this new DVD/CD RW , SATA, which plays and reads fine, but
when I come to write a CD it seems to drop out during the 'lead out'
part. Also seems to fail with 10x speed (1,500Kb), if that mean
anything.

Sorry to post such a long log, but I've run out of ideas.

Alternatively, could you point me to the correct group, if this one is
wrong?

Thanks

Keith (Southend)

ALOF is an old firmware so you should go to liteon and download smartpack
which will check for a newer firmware (ALOL) and install it. Its pretty
painless and should help with media compatibility.

Hi Benedict,

Ran that, seemed fine and found an update, re-booted, then after
windows came back up got a BSoD, which re-booted and seem to be back
were I was with the usual windows error reporting message.

Still not able to write, same problem.

Thanks

Looking at the log it looks like your mobo isnt configured right. All drives
have DMA Off which isnt right and the ATA controller is in IDE mode whereas
a current motherboard should run in AHCI mode - IDE mode will run slower. So
I would set motherboard bios to optimal defaults and make sure mobo drivers
are installed.

Hi Benedict, that's interesting you say that. Upto a week ago I had
given up on this computer as it wouldn't boot up. The BIOS was
stopping it booting up before even the setup screen. I jumpered the
BIOS and after a couple of goes got it going. It's rebooted ok the
last week now. The boot order was screwed up and of cause I had to
change the date (default 2006). However, I had an old CD RW and DVD RW
that had had it, so I took them out and replaced with this new one,
which of course is SATA. I have 3 hard drives, the main SATA and two
slave IDE's, running XP.

I built this myself in 2005:
Abit AN8 MoBo
1 Gig RAM OCZ

I reckon you may have hit the nail on the head with some of the
problems, but I'm not really sure what needs changing and how?

Appreciate your observations, thanks.

In the Bios go to "Standard CMOS Features" and use F7 for Optimal defaults
NOT F6 for fail-safe defaults.
Select any of the IDE channels and press 'enter' and you should see the
Access mode set to 'Auto' which will by default allow DMA.

Also important with nvidia chipset mobo's is that (when installing the OS)
you install the motherboard drivers before graphics and sound drivers -
never leave it up Windows' default drivers.
