Trouble adding XP Client to NT Server

Hello all,

I am volunteering for a non-profit in Oregon, and they
have asked me to add an XP station to their NT network,
and its being cranky.

I've reviewed the Knowledge Base, and attempted to apply
the fixes at http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?
scid=kb;en-us;314366 - specifically, installing NETBEUI
and enabled NETBIOS over TCP/IP, but in all situations I
get the following message when I attempt to add the
computer to the domain:
*****
A domain controller for BLAH could not be contacted.

The domain name BLAH might be a NetBIOS domain name. If
this is the case, verify that the domain name is properly
registered with WINS.

If you are certain that the name is not a NetBIOS domain
name, then the following information can help you
troubleshoot your DNS configuration.

The following error occurred when DNS was queried for the
service location (SRV) resource record used to locate a
domain controller for domain ORTD:

The error was: "DNS name does not exist."
(error code 0x0000232B RCODE_NAME_ERROR)

The query was for the SRV record for
_ldap._tcp.dc._msdcs.BLAH

Common causes of this error include the following:

- The DNS SRV record is not registered in DNS.

- One or more of the following zones do not include
delegation to its child zone:

BLAH
.. (the root zone)

Any help would be appreciated. Many thanks in advance.

Just some further information:

The server's name is BLAH01, even though the domain is
named BLAH. I can ping all of the machines on the network
both by IP and by their computer name, and NET VIEW shows
all of the machines active on the network. I can even use
the server as my proxy server for IE, so clearly I am able
to see the machine and utilize it for most of my
networking needs. Opening up DNS manager on the server
shows only the IP address, but not the domain name. And
the WINS server also lists the IP address, but lists the
computer name rather than the domain name.

I saw someone below was having a similar issue... not sure
if it got resolved. IPCONFIG /ALL gives me the right
hostname, no primary DNS suffix, Hybrid node type, IP
Routing disabled, WINS Proxy disabled, no connection-
specific DNS Suffix, DHCP disabled (As it should be), the
right static IP, a subnet mask matching all the other
machines here, no default gateway, and the IP address of
the server for DNS and WINS servers. Is there anything
I'm missing here?
