Trojan Horse or valid Windows file?

R

Roger L.

Compaq Presario, AVG Version 6.0 Virus Scanner, Windows
XP with all current updates applied. My virus scanner
detected and "placed in the virus vault" what it thinks
is a trojan horse at c:\windows\system32\msCMTsrvc.exe.
Some files can be confused as trojan horses so I need
help in identifying this file. I can't find any reference
on the web to this file as a trojan horse. Does any one
know whether this is a valid windows file or not? Thanks.

Quick Google:
"msCMTSrvc.exe is an application that gets bundled with a particular series
of the Compaq Presario systems. msCMTSrvc is called the Content Monitoring
Tool Service (CMTS). The Compaq Offer Zone, displayed on the desktop as the
Hot Deals icon, uses the CMTS to update the computer when new merchandise is
available for purchase by the user."

Thanks root! It never occurred to me to use Google to
search for a file name. A lesson learned! Thanks again.

Always use Google to search for ANYTHING! If you can't find it there then
search EBay<g>. If it's in neither place then it's not worth searching
