Important: You *must* seek updates for Ad-Aware, Spybot, etc., before each
and every use, even "right out of the box". But even they can't catch
everything, 24/7. When all else fails, HijackThis
(
http://www.merijn.org/files/hijackthis.zip) is the preferred tool to use.
It will help you to both identify and remove any hijackware/spyware. **Post
your files to
http://forums.spywareinfo.com/ or
http://forum.aumha.org/viewforum.php?f=30 for expert analysis, not here.**
[Alternate download pages for many of the above tools may be found at
http://aumha.org/a/parasite.htm.]
Also update your virus definitions and then run a full system scan. From
now on, do both daily.

2. Run a thorough check for hijackware, including posting your HijackThis
log to an appropriate forum.

When all else fails, HijackThis (
http://aumha.net/downloads/hijackthis.zip)
is the preferred tool to use. It will help you to both identify and remove
any hijackware/spyware.
=> hijackthis.exe MUST be located in its own, dedicated folder (e.g.,
C:\Program files\HijackThis\hijackthis.exe).
=> Close all browser, messenger, mediaplayer, mail client, and Office
windows & apps before scanning with HijackThis (HT).
**Post your HijackThis log to
http://forums.spywareinfo.com/,
http://castlecops.com/forum67.html,
http://aumha.net/viewforum.php?f=30 or
other appropriate forum for expert analysis, not here.**
3. Do not install SP2 until an expert gives your HijackThis log a clean bill
of health.

| Aaron,
|
| It sounds as though you may have quite a mess in there. Not
insurmountable,
| just painstaking, and time-consuming (but usually good results I might
add).
|
| Follow these cleanup procedures for your machine. They tend to go from
| easier to more difficult.
| And please, after you've cleaned a few nasties out and things seem to run
| better--DO NOT STOP. Keep doing the step-by-step until one of the experts
| ,(and they are definitely experts) finally tell you ,you have a clean
| machine.
