Triouble with System Restore

Hi, I have a Dell Dimension 8300 system with 1G RAM, 2-80G Disk Drives,...
WindowsXp Pro and ran into a problem the other day when I wanted / I needed
to reset my system to an earlier point but could not get the Systems Restore
function to work. I found a checkpoint that I wanted and clicked on Restore
and the system shutdown, did its' thing, restarted and advised me "Your
computer cannot be restored to xxxx (the restore point I entered). No changes
have been made. To choose another restore point, restart System Restore". I
tried a few other checkpoints / restore point s for different days but just
kept getting this same message. Any suggestions as to what I need to do to
create a VALID restore point? Thanks, Bob
P.S.-I found System Restore information at these Website but it didn't help

Hi, all of your system restore checkpoints are now useless.
Sometimes the file for storing these checkpoints becomes "corrupted" which
renders them useless,to get S/R working once again you need to shut the
service off and reboot your system, next turm S/R back on and reboot a second
time,
All prior chckpoints will be deleted.
It is a good habit to do this once in awhile when your system is working
ok because you really do not know if S/R is corrupted until you need to use
it and then of course it's too late.
