Trend Micro PC Cillin spyware

ah

I use PC Cillin Internet Security 2005 by Trend Micro
which has already an integrated spyware.

1. Must I install also Microsoft spyware?
2. If I do so, is there any (known) incompatibility?

AntiSpyware is a beta product, (unfinished) and does not meet the quality or
standards of shipping Microsoft products. I recommend you continue using PC
Cillin Internet Security 2005 by Trend Micro as your primary antispyware
solution.

I don't know of conflicts, nor do I know of a way to judge the relative
coverage of the two products.

I'd encourage you to install Microsoft Antispyware, and see whether you
observe any incompatibilites, and how it works for you in practice. I would
expect the Microsoft product to actively monitor more system integration
points than Trend Micro's app, but I might be selling them short.

I am presently a bit overloaded with work to be able to
spare time to test anything but as soon as I'll have a
bit of time, I shall download and install it and let the
group know if I find any discrepancy/incompatibility.

I downloaded it but not installed it yet. In case of
incompatibilities with Trend Micro, will it be easy to
uninstall?

For what it is worth, I have installed Microsoft Anti Spyware on
several workstations running Trend Internet Security 2005 as well as
the 2004 version and have not had any issues. I must add though,
please do not use the spyware feature in Trend Internet Security. It
is not a good one at all and has the potential of causing more
problems then you may care to handle. Trend is VERY BAD with false
positives on a spyware scan and if a user does what most will do and
remove what is detected, it is gone for good. I can see no
quarantine option for Trend in the spyware portion. I would
recommend disabling the spyware scan on Trend and using any other
spyware removal tool in it's place.

That is the anti-virus scan that runs automatically.
You have to specifically activate the spyware scan. It
uses a separate pattern file to scan with. <<

Sorry but both run automatically. Do you really have
this product?

Now you are getting personal. I've been working with Trend's PC-
cillin since 1998 and have gone through about 6 version changes. I
work with about 7000 workstations that have it installed. I said you
have to specifically activate spyware scanning. I'll stand by that
statement. I also said it is a very bad product to use for removing
spyware. I'll stand by that statement. If you want to continue
using it and allow it to remove spyware, so be it. I really don't
care. I was only trying to help by letting you know it is most
likely compatible with MS Anti Spyware. (you did ask if I'm not
mistaking) I should have refrained from warning you about the
problems with Trend and Spyware removal. I'll refrain from trying to
help you in the future. Sorry for the imposition.

Yes--there's an uninstall option via add/remove programs. Purists have
observed that it leaves both files in the install location behind, and
registry entries. My sense of the former is that they are in the nature of
"data" rather than code, and useful in case of a reinstall. The registry
entries I haven't looked into and don't have any opinion about.

I am sorry. I did not mean to hurt your feelings. I was just saying that
Trend Micro Spyware runs automatically on my PC and I thought that you may
not have the software on yours. Perhaps my settings are different than
yours.

Thank you for your help. I may install it to give it a try. I'll let you
know.
