Trend Micro -- BIG Problem

If anyone in this NG is using Trend Micro S/W, check out the following

It's amazing how a company can cause such big problems for business
and individual customers alike, then do absolutely nothing to
compensate them.

That article references problems with pattern File 594.
As of the time of this post, the Pattern File is 600.

It's happened with other virus companies in different ways before and none have vompensated
users. This is nothing new to the industry.

Which leads to the following quiz:

Q: What's the difference between anit-virus software and a virus?

A: You pay money to deliberately put anti-virus software on your
computer :).

Other than that, they are both about the same. They both commonly render
your computer inoperative, they both interefere with other programs and
degrade your productivity. At least viruses are free :).

Heh
AVG still freeware, configured to scan on command and full scan at a time
convenient for you.... never bothers me ;-]

My AV never gives me problems. Instead it detects viruses and removes
them as designed. If you are experiencing the issues you describe you
might want to try another product or get someone who knows what they
are doing to check out your pc ;-)

Degrade productivity? See above answer.

That's the 'stupidist' thing you have said yet :)

OTOH, they owned up and explained (preseumably correctly) what happened.

My take is that everybody messes up occasionally and the test is how they
conduct themselves when they do. I'm no fan of TrendMicro, but I'll give them
credit for not stonewalling it.
