Treepad Problem

I have been using Treepad Lite for a long time, and suddenly I seem to
have lost the ability to activate hyperlinks by highlighting them and
clicking the triangle on the toolbar.

In consulting the help file, I discovered there are 3 other methods to
activate hyperlinks, but those don't work either (Double-click it; Move
the cursor to the link, then press Ctrl+H; Place the cursor in the
link; right-click it; point to Navigate; then click Follow Hyperlink.)

Anyone have suggestions as to how to get this back?

You have probably lost the association to some thing else you have
installed.

Reinstall straight over the top & if that dos'nt work, uninstall &
reinstall again.

Thanks for your suggestions - I tried them, and it still doesn't work.
Anyone else? I have Windows XP with Firefox set as default browser.

It's been a while since I've used TreePad, but I had a similar problem
some time ago. As I recall, my problem was in the registry. You might
search for any references to "treepad" after you do a full uninstall &
before a re-install Obviously, back up all your own TP files first! If
it still doesn't work, it may be as the OP says, an association
problem? Since you've already checked that, you *could* try a freeware
association/multi-app association prog.

As you suggested, I again did a full uninstall, and then used Reg
Seeker to search for and delete all "treepad" registry entries. There
were 33 of them! Next I reinstalled TreePad. It still doesn't work.
:-(

Can you recommend a specific freeware association/multi-app association
prog.?

Alternatively, can anyone recommend a freeware app. similar to TreePad?
I've tried Keynote and Golden Section Notes, but really prefer a
smaller and simpler program like TreePad. I just need it to work!

I think the suggestion to re-install meant to re-install the program whose
link you tried unsuccessfully in Treepad. Treepad is a self-contained
program that uses the Windows richedit control to open links that have an
association in Treepad. It's should be 'unbreakable.'

If a link doesn't work, it's probable that the association used to open that
type of file in the link has been broken. Re-install THAT program, not
Treepad.

Do this as a test. Put a variety of links in Treepad and test them. In
particular put a link to a text file in there, as text files nearly always
have some sort of program associated with them. Do any of them work at all
when you try to open them?

I did as you suggested, consulting the TreePad help file and setting up
an example of every possible sort of link. The only one that worked
was the mailto: link.

Finally, I tinkered with Windows XP's "Set Program Access and
Defaults", setting Internet Explorer as the default browser instead of
Firefox, and bingo! now, I can at least launch IE from TreePad. So I
suppose this is a Windows XP problem and not a TreePad problem.
Annoying, but whatever!

I recently switched to XP (sr2) and am having no problems with it. Have you
tried to run it in "legacy mode?"

Right-click Start menu item, Choose 'Properties'
Under 'Compatability' tab, select an ealier OS.

See if that helps.

You're a genius! I set Firefox back as the default browser, then tried
the various compatibility modes. Windows NT 4.0 (Service Pack 5) did
the trick. Thanks a lot.

Too, I know your problem has been solved but since you asked about
association apps, here are a couple.

I asgree with John that Open Expert is a sool association manager.

I've also used the program WAssociate, tho it takes a bit of getting
used to:

You can also pass along various functions when the file is opened.

Another nice one is SendToAny:

Esp nice in that you can use it as well with weird file extensions, or
ones you have deliberately set up in order to only open with certain
apps, or weird files with no extensions. Nice too that it will work
with any app, regardless if there's an association already or not.
