Tray at the bottom of the screen

On the right end of the tray (next to the clock) are a series of icons
representing the programs that are running in the background. The one I want
to use and see gets covered up by the compressed cover. Is ther any way I
can control which icons are visable all of the time? Is there any way I can
order the icons from right to left?

Thanks

No.

Yes.

Hide when inactive is the default setting for all Notification area icons.
This behavior can be disabled altogether by clicking to clear Hide inactive
icons in the taskbar properties.

Right click the Taskbar | Properties | Taskbar tab |
UNcheck: Hide inactive icons

Or you can set individual behavior for each item.

Right click the Taskbar | Properties | Taskbar tab |
Customize button | Click on the Behavior item to show the V |
Click the V to display: Hide when inactive, Always hide and Always show |
Now you can select one

[[In Microsoft Windows XP, icons in the Notification area (on the right side
of the taskbar) are, by default, hidden when they are inactive. This
behavior is determined by a setting, which can be cleared or selected for
each item.]]

Right-click anywhere under the clock or free space on the taskbar and select
Properties.

CLick on Taskbar tab and click on the Customize button near the bottom next
to Hide inactive icons.

Go thru the list and find the application you want to see in taskbar. Once
found, click on option box for the line entry to the right and set it to
Always Show.

Click on OK and OK to close the Properties dialog box.

It's the Notification Area of the task bar - commonly called the system
tray. You can change the order of icons by changing the order in which the
programs that generate the icons start. You would have to start them one at
a time after XP boots to the desktop or use a batch file that loads the
program in the order you want, with pauses in between. More work than it's
worth.
