Transporting large files between my comps.

Before I get started I'm going to have to admit that its
a saturday, I'm in college, and I'm at home doing
homework! What is wrong with me, why do I care so much?

Ok, the question: I have a laptop and a pc both running
XP professional, and I want to share many large files
(over 3 gigs worth) between the computers frequently.
How can I hook them up directly?
 
IF they both have ethernet NICs (as most modern laptops do) all you will
need is a Cat5 crossover cable and you're good to go, go to a retailer who
can find his arse with a map and ask for one.
