Transplanting Hard Disks

I transplanted my hard disks (including system drive) into a new PC this
week (to upgrade hardware) and when I started up it blue-screened very
quickly and then reset. It looped round and round like this.

Do I need to do something special before I can transplant the system drive
into a new system with new motherboard/processor etc.

I am trying to avoid a reformat as it was only done on the old system
recently.

Would a repair of Windows help or is there a much simpler answer?

OS is XP Pro SP2 (with all patches).

Old Hardware (in which the system drive was built and works) is an AMD
Athlon XP 1600+ on an Abit mobo.

New Hardware (which I am trying to put the system drive in) is an Intel P4
2.4 on a Asus mobo.

A repair install should work. I don't think that you'll find anything
simpler to fix the problem.

Make sure to re-apply any service packs/patches.

The old hard drive, as it stands, does not have the correct drivers
installed for the new hardware in your new system. Of course it won't boot
up!

You will need to do a repair install. Then you will need to install the
recommended drivers for all of your new hardware (generic drivers will be
installed during the repair install). Then you will have to reapply all
Windows Updates that are indicated when you allow Windows Update to scan
your system.

Others have reported different experiences (and some different methods) but
I've always needed to do a repair install when changing motherboards. Once
Windows is up and running, you may run into a program or two that needs
reinstalling. Expect these to be programs that work very closely with
hardware (printer tools, disk burning programs, etc). Reinstalling will
re-introduce them to the "new" hardware.

NOTE: The above article applies to retail CD or a generic OEM CD. If your
Windows came preinstalled and your recovery media has been customized by
the manufacturer, check your system manual for restore/repair options and
