I didn't say it would be easy
To drop the background is hard enough, to make the remainder transparent would depend entirely on what the picture is...generally a photo does not lend itself to becoming a .gif...but who knows...if you stylize it enough maybe she'd end up with something usable.
| JPGs cannot be transparent. Only GIFs can be transparent. The problem is,
| GIFs only support 256 colors max. You can use an image editor to change the
| format, but expect the quality to drop, and possibly the image file size to
| grow, if you do.
