Transitions with Movie Maker 2

B

Brian

We are trying to complete a movie using movie maker 2.
We have all of the clips in our timeline, have created a
lead-in and a closing set of credits, and have
transitions between the various scene changes, except two
of them.
When we try to drag a transition onto the timeline at two
locations, we get a circle with a line through it when we
attempt to drag the transition to these two locations
only. All others worked fine.
We have tried almost all of the various transitions and
all give us the same circle and will not place the
transition.
Any ideas?? Our movie is almost done and this ne hiccup
is really frustrating.

Thanks for the reply. As a real newbie to movie maker and
film editing, I have to ask, what is "the minimum
overlap"?
we have dragged our clips onto the timeline, and then
want to drag transitions between the clips. This worked
perfectly except in two places between some clips. Is
there something else we need to do to allow transitions
between clips. I'm not understanding the "minimum
overlap". If there is something additional we need to do
to allow the transitions between the clips, I would
appreciate a quick explaination.
Thanks for the help.

A transition needs time to change from one clip to the next. If you haven't
changed from the defaults, check Tools > Options > Advanced tab.

The Transition duration setting is 1.25 seconds by default.... it will use
that much of an overlap when applied. So, if you have a one second video
clip as one of the two you're trying to apply a transition to, it isn't long
enough.... but I'm testing it now and not able to see a problem applying
one, even if the transition time is longer than the clip.... MM2 seems to
adapt.

Are the source files for the clips you're having problems with different
than the rest? Are the transitions from the standard set or add-on ones?

Thanks for your reply.
I had a look at the clips adjacent to the places where we
can't add the transitions and in all cases we have some
very short clips in there. We will try changing the clips
to something of longer duration and that will likely fix
the problem, as any other areas where the clips are
longer is no problem.
To answer your latest questions, the clips are all from
the same source file and the transitions are all the
standard Movie Maker ones.
Thanks again for your help.
