Transitions not working with video

I’m using PowerPoint 2003 - often when I add video with or without a delayed
start, set to stop playing after current slide, with action to stop the
video, and finally a timed slide auto advance set for after all the animation
is complete - the slide does NOT transition! The pointer in the advance
timeline justs keeps going. The problem seems sporadic! - I’m thinking it’s
a bug. Is there a good technique or workaround to force a slide to
transition? Also, does the 2007 PowerPoint handle this and other technical
issues with more integrity? Thanks, Doug

By "action to stop the video," do you mean you used a Custom Animation --
went to Add Effect | Movie Action | Stop Video, set it to "with previous"
and specified a delay time?

What kind of time do you have set for the automatic slide transition?
There's not really an "advance after animation complete" setting.

Your comment that the pointer in the advance timeline keeps going makes me
wonder if you're reviewing this in actual slide show view or just relying on
the Play button in the Custom Animation or Slide Transition task panes. I
wouldn't rely on just the Play button preview here.

Finally, I don't know if PPT 2007 handles this specific issue any better,
but I wouldn't count on it. There were relatively few, if any, changes to
animations and transitions in 2007 -- other than putting some of the
features on the Ribbon where they're more easily accessed.

Yes to your first question. what I meant by advance after animation complete
is that I set a time well past when any animations would still be in play.
Any other ideas on forcing a slide to transition?

Shorten the transition time? That is why the slide is sitting there -- it's
waiting for however many seconds to complete before it transitions.

After playing for 1 hour, I've concluded that delayed start of a video is a
transition killer, no matter what type of video file it is. it all works
fine UNTIL I add a delayed start to the video. So I guess I will just use a
video editor to adjust start points before bringing it in. If you have any
other suggestions please let me know. Or I could email a packed presentation
for you to play with. (e-mail address removed).

Thanks, Doug

Meant to say in last post that starting media with a "from time" seems to be
a transition killer...

Thanks for reporting back with your findings. There have been some oddities
similar to this reported with sound files starting at places other than the
beginning. I would imagine it's related.

There's not really an "advance after animation complete" setting.

Your comment that the pointer in the advance timeline keeps going
makes
me
wonder if you're reviewing this in actual slide show view or just
relying

the Play button in the Custom Animation or Slide Transition task

wouldn't rely on just the Play button preview here.

Finally, I don't know if PPT 2007 handles this specific issue any

to
animations and transitions in 2007 -- other than putting some of the
features on the Ribbon where they're more easily accessed.
