Transferring Windows XP to new computer

I will be upgrading my computer at home and want to use my current hard drive
with Windows XP Pro (OEM version) in the new one.
I have searched the newsgroup and it appears that because it is an OEM
version I may not be able to change computers.
Does this mean I have to buy another version of Windows XP?
Can I install the OEM version to the new computer's hard drive and then
transfer the rest of the hard drive? What would happen when I had to register
it again?

Help.

Thank you.

Q. "Does this mean I have to buy another version of Windows XP?"

A. Yes. An OEM version is tied to the first computer hardware configuration
it is installed and activated on.

That's correct. By your own admission, you have an OEM license for
WinXP. An OEM version must be sold with a piece of hardware (normally
a motherboard or hard rive, if not an entire PC) and is _permanently_
bound to the first PC on which it's installed. An OEM license, once
installed, is not legally transferable to another computer under _any_
circumstances.

Yes, you need to purchase a separate WinXP license for each computer on
which you install it.

If the new computer is also OEM Pro, you can do the repair install and use
the Product Key from the new computer.
Click on the link below, or copy and paste the link into the address box
if using the web based newsgroup.
