transferring data between old and new computers

Both are running XP Pro, the CD of which is in a 'safe place' (read
misplaced). The old computer is just a box (no monitor, etc). I do have an
unopened CD of XP Home which came with my third beast.
I have tried to use F&T Wizard between the 2 pro computers but to no avail.
The old computer will not recognise the monitor which is now attached to the
new computer.
Help please, because of course I need the data from the old computer.

The old system has a drive with the jumper setting set for "Primary". Read
the lable on the drive after you remove it from the old machine. Set it
for
'secondary', and put it in the new machine.

Just to "flesh out" Mark's suggestion...

Are we correct in assuming that you have a new functioning PC and your
objective is to access the data that resides on a hard drive presently
installed in an old (defunct?) PC?

If that is the case (I'm not clear of the relevance of your comment that you
have "an opened CD of XP Home which came with my third beast") then Mark's
suggestion that you physically remove the HDD from the old PC and install it
in your new PC as a "secondary" HDD and access its contents through that
means is a sensible approach assuming that you have sufficient expertise
(and motivation) to undertake this operation.

Not that it's a particularly difficult operation - it's not - but it always
helps if you've had some experience in this area - accessing the "innards"
of your computer - or at least can call on someone to provide assistance.
(We're assuming your new PC is a desktop machine as is the old PC).

Anyway, if you would like to undertake this operation...

Mark's comments re "Primary" and "secondary" are a bit confusing in this
situation and need some clarification. If you want, I can provide you with
some more details concerning this process of transferring a HDD to another
PC, so let us know if you want to proceed with this approach.
