transferring archive.pst to new computer

My emails are saved on an email server, so I regularly archive my emails onto
my computer and heavily depend on this archive. I have just moved my files
to my new computer using the Files and Settings Transfer Program. I noticed
that my archive folders didn't seem to transfer - no archive folders
appeared. So I copied the archive.pst off Outlook 2003 on my old computer
and copied into my Outlook 2003 application data folder on my new computer.
When I re-opened Outlook on my new computer, the old archive data did not
show -- it seemed to create new archive folders. Yet when I used Microsoft
Explorer to check -- my old very large archive folder appears in my
application data folder. How can I access those old emails? Can I get them
to be visible in Outlook when I open it? If so, how?

File - Open - Outlook Data Files and select it.

Can I get them to

Once you open it, it should stay there until you close it with a right
click - close command.

I tried this with no success. From what I read online, Office 2003 just opens a new archive when you try to transfer an old one. And that's what seems to happen to me. When I try to open archive.pst from Outlook-- I get a very simplistic set of folders -- inbox, deleted and search folders. When I rename my folder "old archive.pst" it doesn't even show up under "Open - Outlook Data Files" I have double-checked my path multiple times - Documents and settings - my name - Application data - Microsoft - Outlook. The strangest thing is that although both my "archive.pst" and "old archive.pst" show up in Windows Explorer as the same size -- the actual folder that opens in Outlook contains only a few emails...and though they are mine, I cannot identify which of my folders they came out of.

Dear F.H. -- Thanks for your question. As I went to double-check the answer to your question,I couldn't find the file on the old computer. That's when I double-checked the path for the zillionth time -- and realized there are TWO sets of Application Data folders -- one under my name and one under "my name/Local Settings." I had put the folder just under the Application data folders under my name. Once I switched it to the Application Data folders under Local Settings then it popped up nicely in Outlook. Whew! Problem resolved. Thanks!
