Transfering ownership of files

My problem is simple. My machine died, the hard drive still works
and I want the files from it. I mounted the drive as a slave in th
machine I am using now and I can read and access the entire har
drive except for what was on my desktop. I have many papers, (musi
and games too) that I really want to retrieve but I get denied acces
anytime I try to open the folder. I figured this was because my ol
machine was passworded, but I cant find anywhere to enter th
password. Can anyone tell me how to get the files from that machine
