Problems accessing files on 2nd Hard Drive

I have a new Dell computer. I installed the hard drive from my old Dell
computer as a secondary slave drive. I am unable to access the document and
settings folder on the old drive for a specific user because that user was
password protected on the old computer. How can I gain access to those
files? The old computer is not bootable anymore or I would reinstall the
hard drive back into the old machine to retrieve them. I'm tried creating
that same user on the new machine with the same password on the old machine,
but it still won't access. Any suggestions?
