There are two ways to do this:

1. Install Outlook on your Vista machine, connect it to your copied .PST
file, then import from it using 'File|Import|Messages|Microsoft Outlook (or
Microsoft Exchange)'. Outlook MUST be installed and functional for this to
work because only Outlook can open the .PST file. Outlook is the "MAPI
client" that the system will complain about not being able to find, should
you attempt this transfer without it's presence.

2. Transfer everything from Outlook to Outlook Express on your older
machine, then transfer from OE to Windows Mail per these instructions:

Thanks for your help.

You have two choices: 1. Install Outlook, preferably version 2003 or
later, under Vista. Windows Mail needs part of it to help it import .pst
files. I'm not sure if that version of Microsoft Office includes Outlook,
though. 2. Import the messages from Outlook to Outlook Express on
your old computer, then import them from Outlook Express into
Windows Mail.

Note that some methods of copying files from one computer to another
make the copies readonly. You need to make sure the copies are
read-write before telling Windows Mail to import them.

Having tried option 1 below, I still have a problem. I can not get Outlook
to be "functional", even though it is installed from the original, official
CD. I am able to start Outlook, open a copy of the old *.pst-file and gets
the contacts, old mails, etc. The problem is when I try to access the
address book or send a mail. I get a message saying "An error occured when
trying to access the address book. Could not find the DLL-file for the
address book". The same error message occurs when I try to send mail.

The problem is - I can not locate the file either. I have not been able to
find any documentation as to which DLL-file that should be installed or how
to install it.

Withouth this, import to Vista Mail seems to be impossible.

Anyone who can help - please?

You did not say which version of Outlook.
Outlook 2000 and 2002 will have problems with Vista, see
