Transfer Files & Settings

Rick Morrison

I am trying to move files and settings from an old Windows ME computer with
no ethernet adapter to a new XP box with ethernet and USB ports but no
serial port. Both have USB ports. Can I do transfer the files and settings
using a CD? Both boxes do have CDs.

Thanks
Rick

You might instead consider trying Laplink's PCmover, which I believe will do
this. Theoretically it is supposed to be able to move both the files AND
the settings, even to a newer operating system.

Yes, you can use cd's. You can break up the transfer if needed. Moving the
settings will be no trick since that file will be very small. It depends on
how large your files are as to whether you would have to do it in stages
with cd's. Just run the XP FAST wizard from the XP cd on the ME system
("old" computer), save the output to cd, then run FAST again on the XP box
("new" computer) and point it to the file on the cd.
