Files and Settings Transfer Wizard

I am trying to transfer files and settings from my old
Windows 95 machine to a new Windows XP machine using the
file transfer wizard and a serial cable connection. The
file transfer wizard starts up and compresses the files on
the old computer but seems to hang up once the transfer
begins. Can anyone offer any useful advice? The old pc
does not have an ethernet card, cd burner or USB port.

Not much help here, just want to point out that neither the serial nor
parallel direct connection cables
EVER worked for me. Only USB. They just did not work, no matter what. Not
recommended.
