XP FAST (Files And Settings Transfer) wizard freezes on old comput

I'm trying to migrate files and settings from a old computer running Windows
2000 Pro (SP4) to a new computer running Windows XP Pro (SP3) using the XP
FAST Wizard.

I'm using the XP CD to run the wizard on the old computer, and I'm able to
progress successfuly to the point were both computers are connected by the
wizard using a Null modem serial cable (i.e. both computers have the wizard
running showing a conection via the COMM1 port).

However when I press the "next" button on the old computer nothing happens.
If I press the "next" putton on the new computer the wizard moves to the next
screen but informs me it is waiting for the old computer.

I have also tried to transfer the files and settings using an external
harddrive. However the same/similar problem results. The wizard on the old
computer does not progress when I press "next" after selecting the external
harddrive.

I would appreciate any ideas or confirmation the wizard does not work.

Thanks in advance.

Give up and copy the
files/favorites/documents/pictures/music/contacts/email/etc that you want to
keep manually.

In the end - all you will be missing is some settings for programs you may
not even have installed on the new system.

Thanks Shenan,

My main objective was transfering e-mails, contacts, tasks, etc held in MS
Office Outlook 2000 and transfering word & excel data file.

Coping the Outlook 2000 PST file and importing it into Outlook 2007 seems to
have worked for the e-mails etc and a simple copy of the data via the
external harddrive sorted the rest.

Looing at other posts it seems the FAST wizard is very problematic. It
would be nice it Microsoft sorted this out!

Thanks for your taking the time to reply.

Regards

Rob

They have - you are working with 9 year old technology 2 and 3 iterations in
the past. ;-)
