Track Changes - Save w/revision lines and not balloons

Say I send a doc. to someone, then I make revisions and I want to show the
rev. line but not the balloon saying what the revision was. They have both
copies so they can compare.

In order to show the revision line the balloons have to be showing. If I
accept the change the revision balloon goes away but so does the rev. line. I
am able to VIEW the document in the manner I want but I can't save it this
way.

Thanks in advance

Each person has control of their own Track Changes display. Anyone who wants
to use the "old" view (where text is showed with strikethrough and bold
underline) should turn off the display of balloons. You can do this in
several ways:

1. On reviewing toolbar, click Show > Balloons > Never
2. Tools > Options > Track changes > Use balloons - never

Yes, that is exactly my problem. Each person has control of their own Track
Changes.

I need to indicate where the change has been made, but not show the ballon
with the details of the change. Then I need to save it in this manner so that
when others open it they see it this way.

If I set Word to never display balloons, it looks how I want it but it will
do it only in my computer. Everyone else will see it with balloons.

Any other options? comments?

The bottom line is that you cannot control someone else's computer. If you
want to ensure that they see what you see, you need to either (a) send a PDF
with just change bars or (b) accept all the changes and insert fake change
bars as drawing lines.

That's what I was afraid of. I am sending a PDF along with the Word doc. I
was thinking about drawing these bars, but that's just not feasable. I'm
thinking about removing Word 2003 and going back to 2000, as insane as that
may sound.

I have been able to achieve this in some documents....I don't know how or
why but it does it. If I select the change and accept it, it deletes the
balloon but not the revision line....why? I have no clue.

Thanks for the help. : )

Going back to Word 2000 won't help if the recipients are using Word 2003.

You are correct, going back to 2000 won't work.

I believe I have found the answer. I'm posting this FYI for other people. If
you make a change, the revision line and balloon come up. Select the balloon
and accept the change ONCE, then it will delete the balloon and leave the
revision mark.

Now, I have seen that this only works when text is changed. If it's a
formatting change and you accept the change then it will take off the
revision mark.

To bring back the line, you just delete a letter in the sentence where the
change took place and type it back again, accept that change and you have
your revision line!
