Total loss of operating sys

I tried to start pc this morning, the whole operating sys
was gone. Never had any problem like this before. Tried
to repair boot record and keep getting message not
operating sys. installed. Installed spare hard drive and
checked the original drive and all that was left was
personal files all of windows was gone. Has anyone heard
of this problem before? Had to reformat the hard drive
and reinstall windows to get the sys. back up. Is this a
glitch in win. XP or did somthing else happen. What ever
happened Norton Internet Security was also removed and
now have it reinstalled but when i run live update the
files will download but will not completely install. I
this the lovesan bug or something simular? Thanks

That doesn't sound like virus behaviour to me. Download the appropriate
diagnostic utility from the maker of your hard drive and create the floppy
diskettes. Boot from them and run the most comprehensive test they offer.
Note any error codes.
Whatever it is, it's not Love San.
