This is exactly my problem...Supposedly there is an
click on something called "Lock the Toolbar". Clicking on
that either locks or unlocks the toolbars--the former
greys out the toolbars. But in my case, there is no "Lock
the Toolbar" option. There is also no "customize" option
which is supposed to be there. I only show "text labels".

This is my problem too ... I have a gray menu on the right click option, I have no "lock/unlock" feature, and I now have a new "iSearch" toolbar that somehow got installed and I can't get rid of it. Anyone finds a solution to this please let us know. I thought I had some pretty good security going on but this new toobar somehow got downloaded, installed, and implemented on my browser with no way to get rid of it; I've even tried downloading & reinstalling IE6 but that didn't solve the problem. PLEASE HELP US SOMEONE!!

Thanx immensely, once again Frank; you are a godsend...it worked...the only thing I'm concerned about is that I'm not sure I follow the instructions on using Regsvr32 to uninstall the iSearch toolbar. At any rate, my dialog box is no longer gray and I have the customize option back (even though iSearch Toolbar is still an option in the box); but I think I'll take your advice and run adaware regularly and download toolbarcop and use it. Again, thanx, you saved me a lot of grief, and of course everyone else who was having this problem. Can't say thank you enough or thank you to this newsgroup, it's very useful

I am having the same issue EXACTLY! 'iSearch' has

Hi,
The Internet Explorer toolbar may be missing or misplaced due to corrupted
registry keys, which hold the Toolbar placement values.
1. In the Registry Editor window, click the plus symbol next to each entry
to open them in the following order:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Toolbar
2. Right-click "Toolbar" key.
3. Double-click Delete.
4. Close the Registry window.
5. As in step 4, navigate to:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Toolbar
6. Right-click "Toolbar" key and select Delete option.
7. Close the Registry and restart the system.
This should restore the tool bars and its positioning.
