When I go to 'View' 'Toolbars' everything appears in grey. The option 'Lock
toolbars' even disappeared. When right clicking on the toolbars they also
appear in grey.
So my toolbars are completly out of control.

The problem happened very suddenly, and I can't find the problem.

You do not mention which Windows version you are running, but, try the
following and see if it helps.

Restore Toolbars in Internet Explorer and/or Windows® Explorer
http://www.dougknox.com/xp/tips/toolbar_restore.htm

Restore Default Toolbars

Courtesy of Ramesh

Type this command in the RUN box, and press Enter:

Rundll32 Iedkcs32.dll,BrandCleanInstallStubs

The Windows Update menu text and it's corresponding URL is reset to factory
defaults

If these steps do not resolve your problem, please post back to this thread
with the details and any error messages.

Hope this helps

Hi Jan Il

Thanks for your post, but unfortunately none of both solutions resolved the
problem.
Right-clicking in the toolbar still shows all the options in grey.

My system: Win2k, IE 6.0 SP1

Hi WernerL :)
Hi Jan Il

resolved the problem.

Here's another methods to restore your Default toolbar you might try:

Restore Toolbars in Internet Explorer and/or Windows® Explorer
http://www.dougknox.com/xp/tips/toolbar_restore.htm

------
Also try clearing your TIF's:

Deleting Cookies and TIF's

Safely Delete the Temporary Internet Files
http://www.mvps.org/winhelp2002/delcache.htm

I get an error saying my browser is not set to accept cookies, but it is!
http://inetexplorer.mvps.org/answers.htm#cookies

See http://inetexplorer.mvps.org/answers.htm#cookies and
http://inetexplorer.mvps.org/answers_8.htm#deltree

However, it is possible you have a hijacker, malware, spyware or parasites
on your system that can cause this problem. In addition to running your
updated anti-virus
program, you should do the following to be sure none of these are present on
your system. Follow all instructions carefully:

Dealing with Unwanted Spyware and Parasites:
http://mvps.org/winhelp2002/unwanted.htm
Be sure to run CWShredder, Ad-aware and Spybot.
Also be sure to use the HijackThis. Please do not post your log to this
newsgroup, but to the SpywareInfo or the Aumha HiJackThis forums
http://forum.aumha.org/viewforum.php?f=30, to allow the experts there to
evaluate your log and advise you of the necessary steps to clean your
system.

CAUTION!!!!! Before you try to remove spyware using any of the programs
below, download a copy of LSPFIX from any of the following sites:
http://www.cexx.org/lspfix.htm
http://www.spychecker.com/program/winsockxpfix.html
(if your OS is Win2k or XP) The process of removing certain malware may kill
your internet connection. If this should occur, this program, LSPFIX, will
enable you to regain your connection.

Also, get a copy of WINSOCKFIX available at:
http://www.spychecker.com/program/winsockxpfix.html

-------
If still no joy, you might also consider a repair of IE as follows:

Be sure that your AV and firewall is disabled before starting:

Don't know if the fixes offered by Jan address the registry restrictions or
not, but you can take a look here.

Plus there is this, courtesy of the legwork done by Ramesh - MVP:

This is most likely caused by the iSearch toolbar installation, as see in
numerous newsgroup posts. iSearch seem to make entries to HOSTS file as
well. Rename the file named "HOSTS" (without a file extension). This tip is
from MVP Mike
Burgess. The HOSTS file will be present in the following location:

Windows XP=C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS\ETC
Windows 2K=C:\WINNT\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS\ETC
Win 98\ME=C:\WINDOWS

Just rename the HOSTS file to OLDHOSTS and try the remaining part of the
advice.
