Toolbars cannot be changed

H

Hans Näslund

All of a sudden, it has become impossible to edit or changes the toolbars in
Internet Explorer. When I go to Show > Toolbars, all installed toolbars are
greyed out, and I cannot change or add any toolbars, which means that it is
now impossible to create the toolbar loayout I want and need.

I have tried the fix mentioned in
http://windowsxp.mvps.org/IEFAQ.htm#IEToolbars, but that did not help.

Any hints are really welcome!

I am using IE 6.0 with Win2000 SP3.

Maybe I should add that this phenomenon first occurred after I had an attack
by Adware.Livechat, which seems to have locked this option, as well as the
infamous ErrorSafe. I managed to get rid of both with the help of NoAdware
and Norton AntivVirus - but the change in IE remains.

Thanks again - but I just realised that I'm still unable to change the
toolbars in Windows Explorer folders; they are locked (by me), and all
options are greyed out, as they were in Internet Explorer. (And again the IE
toolbars are back to their previoous layout - although now I'm able to
re-layout them.)

Do you have a fix for this also?

Kind regards,
Hans

Did you run this http://windowsxp.mvps.org/reg/IE_reset_restrictions.reg

Thanks again!

Now I think I have fixed the toolbar problem both in IE and Windows
Explorer.

But one irritating problem remains: When I do a search with Google and try
to access one of the search results, I am often (but not always) redirected
to some uninteresting and unsuable search page, or to an advertisement for
some product that I'm not interested in. This seems to happen most often if
the search terms are computer-related.

I have scanned the computer with Ad-Aware, which found some 150 adware items
and removed them. But this phenomenon still continues after reboot.

Thank you!

Thanks
